Sophos now also offers switches.
Sophos
If you are already thinking about replacing a firewall, it is very likely that other parts of the network infrastructure are also up for discussion. If you're looking to replace your WLAN, once you have more than a few access points, you'll need something to power them, or the search for available power outlets will begin. Or maybe you need to separate IoT devices from other business devices on the network in one of your many field offices. The answer is almost always a switch. And if everything comes from a single provider, you can usually improve your network visibility, reduce your management overhead and possibly optimise the price.
Switches may not be the first products you think of when it comes to cybersecurity, but access layer switches are usually the gatekeepers for device access to the rest of the network, and if that wasn't enough, they are the masters of segmentation. I am certain that network segmentation is the key to minimising a network's exposure in the event of an intrusion, as it prevents lateral movement. Of course, many other solutions play a role in this scenario, but the role that a switch can play should never be underestimated.
The Sophos Switch Series
Sophos will initially offer eight models, with two more expected in mid-2022. All switches can be managed in Sophos Central together with your other Sophos products. However, the full range of functions and configuration will only be available via the local web user interface from the first version. Management is also supported via the Command Line Interface (CLI) or Simple Networking Management Protocol (SNMP).
Sophos Central will be key to some unique features in the future, and yes, Sophos plans to offer synchronised security at some point, but there is no definitive date for the launch of this feature yet. As soon as we know more, we will let you know.
