Fortinet - FortiOS 7.0 - Significant advances in networking and security
Fortinet
The challenge with rapidly expanding the network perimeter is that many of the technologies needed to do so simply do not work together. And isolated point security solutions can hinder an organisation's ability to expand its network and adapt quickly to changing business needs. A zero-trust solution, for example, requires the use of a variety of components - a client, a proxy, authentication and security. However, in most organisations, these components are almost always provided by different vendors. This means they run on different operating systems and use different consoles for management and configuration. This makes establishing a zero-trust model across all these vendors nearly impossible.
That's why Fortinet is proud to announce the release of FortiOS 7.0, a new version of the world's most widely deployed security operating system. With over 300 new features and updates, FortiOS 7.0 continues to expand the Security Fabric to provide consistent security across all network boundaries, including the endpoint, network, cloud and OT. But more importantly, this release continues our commitment to delivering a comprehensive and integrated cybersecurity platform to protect all networks, endpoints and clouds. It strengthens the expansive security fabric by providing a common framework for all critical security solutions, regardless of where they are deployed.
FortiOS 7.0 enables organisations to address some of the biggest security challenges they face today, such as delivering advanced cloud-based security and zero-trust network access for remote workers and the new home office. Here is an overview of the key services and features now included in FortiOS 7.0:
- Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA)
With FortiOS 7.0, any FortiGate customer can quickly and easily implement Zero Trust Network Access, ensuring validated and authorised access to specific groups of network resources based on user role, device type and similar contexts. ZTNA improves the user experience by providing a better and more secure remote access solution, replacing traditional VPN connections. It also reduces the attack surface by verifying each user and device for each application session, as well as hiding business-critical applications from the internet.
ZTNA, powered by FortiOS 7.0, also simplifies management by enabling the same access policies to be deployed and enforced no matter where users are located, inside or outside the network. And Fortinet is the only provider of a firewall-based ZTNA solution that offers high performance, a common management and configuration interface, and support for key consolidation efforts. - Cloud-based SASE
Fortinet's new cloud-based Security-as-a-Service (SASE) consumption model, included in FortiOS7.0, extends Fortinet's enterprise-grade, on-premises security to remote workers, hardening the weakest link in most security architectures. This provides end users with consistent protection and policy enforcement regardless of where they are located. And for customers who prefer a lean, simplified branch, Fortinet also supports a thin edge solution via SASE. - Self-healing SD-WAN
FortiOS 7.0 now provides self-healing capabilities through adaptive WAN repair for Fortinet's leading Secure SD-WAN solution, making the application experience much more robust. Fortinet has also enhanced passive application monitoring for SaaS and multi-cloud applications to improve the user experience and support users working from anywhere. - 5G network connectivity
FortiOS 7.0 also extends network connectivity and security beyond the WAN edge with innovations in 5G and LTE that improve wireless network performance and increase resilience. With a diverse wireless WAN and LTE solution, businesses can achieve secure, scalable and highly available network connectivity anywhere, as a high-performance backup solution or as the primary connectivity service in remote locations where other services are unreliable or unavailable. - Adaptive cloud security
Organisations today struggle to ensure consistent security policies and enforcement, manage and optimise application access, and maintain overall performance in multi-cloud environments. With the introduction of FortiOS 7.0, Fortinet's adaptive cloud security offerings provide optimised performance and security across multiple clouds, centralised management for hybrid clouds, auto-scaling for practical resource utilisation, dynamic load balancing and visibility into the application user experience within and across multiple cloud environments. - Advanced NOC/SOC
FortiOS 7.0 delivers improved operational efficiency for NOC and SOC environments with new and enhanced features that give network security teams of all sizes and footprints more options to improve operational efficiency, including FortiManager/FortiAnalyzer integrations with the latest version of FortiSOAR as a container to fully orchestrate an organisation's security processes. New updates also simplify SaaS management and strengthen Fortinet's ability to reduce operational complexity in a single management experience via FortiCloud. - FortiGuard Labs Threat Intelligence
The FortiGuard security services portfolio includes a comprehensive set of advanced security features to protect content, users, devices, web access and applications. FortiOS 7.0 now extends this functionality with web protection optimised for work-from-home environments. It also includes the industry's first video filtering service, which provides even more granular protection for businesses and users with new video-intensive content consumption patterns created by the growth of work-from-home.
FortiOS 7.0 is a giant leap forward for today's networks
The release of FortiOS 7.0 dramatically expands the Fortinet Security Fabric's ability to deliver consistent security across all networks, endpoints and clouds. It enables organisations to run their business the way it needs to be, so users and devices can access applications, resources, data and services regardless of their location and from anywhere in the world.
By allowing organisations to consolidate their security into a single, integrated platform, Fortinet Security Fabric, powered by FortiOS 7.0, extends visibility and control, ensures consistent security policy deployment and enforcement, and enables centralised management across the distributed network - all without compromising performance or protection, limiting scalability or stifling innovation.
